In its year-end issue 2025, Holzkurier reports that Holtec made significant progress towards the “sawmill of the future” over the past year. The focus is on the “Next Level Loghandling” approach, through which the company is further developing log logistics in technological, digital and sustainable terms.
A key milestone was Holtec’s appearance at Ligna 2025, where the company presented a networked, fully electric plant concept featuring the VPK LogHandler portal crane, AI applications and remote control technologies. At the same time, numerous projects were implemented across Europe, highlighting the ongoing transformation towards more efficient and sustainable sawmills.
Particular emphasis is placed on a project in the Eifel region at Wood & Energy where the installation of two electrically powered portal cranes gives tangible form to a “sawmill of the future”. This moment is described as a symbol of the industry’s willingness to embrace transformation.
In addition, Holtec was honoured in November at the “Innovator des Jahres” competition. The jury particularly recognised the combination of classic mechanical engineering, digital intelligence and practical, application-oriented solutions.
Overall, the report shows that the log yard is increasingly evolving into a strategic core area, with Holtec providing important momentum for the future of the sawmilling industry through integrated, digital and sustainable solutions.
