State-of-the-art log-handling technology for Thébault's new LVL production.

Task

With the construction of a state‑of‑the‑art LVL production facility in Lempdes‑sur‑Allagnon (Haute‑Loire), the Thébault Group is laying the foundation for entering a forward‑looking market segment. A key component of this major investment was the design and implementation of a high‑performance log yard – the starting point of the entire value chain.

The goal was to process long logs with high process reliability while producing precisely defined short sections of 2.1 m and 2.65 m. These lengths form the exact basis for subsequent conditioning and veneer production. The system was to be designed for an annual capacity of 200,000 cubic metres in two‑shift operation, reliably handle heavy log dimensions with an average diameter of 380 mm, and ensure consistently high dimensional accuracy. At the same time, a robust, low‑maintenance and turnkey solution from a single source was required.

Solution

HOLTEC was responsible for the complete realisation of the log yard – from engineering and detailed planning through to the delivery and commissioning of all components. The result is a high‑performance system precisely tailored to the specific requirements of the LVL process.

The material flow begins with efficient log infeed and separation, followed by butt‑end reducer to optimise downstream processing. The logs are then fed with high accuracy into the debarking line with band‑centering (small‑end first). A powerful debarker in combination with a 3D measurement conveyor ensures exact measurement as the basis for the subsequent cutting process.

At the heart of the installation is the HOLTEC band conveyor crosscut line with two fixed stops, ensuring highly precise cutting to 2.1 m and 2.65 m. The result is a robust, low‑maintenance and process‑stable solution that combines maximum precision with industrial‑grade performance – creating the ideal foundation for the successful start‑up of Thébault’s new LVL production.
