Groupe SIAT is one of the largest and most modern sawmill companies in France, with over 200 years of tradition. With around 450 employees at three sites in Alsace and Occitania, this family-owned company produces over 400,000 m³ of sawn timber and 120,000 tonnes of wood pellets every year.
In 2022, SIAT set a strong example of efficiency and innovation: the installation of a modern sawmill for large-diameter logs in Alsace marked another milestone for the company. Holtec supplied the log yard and sawmill infeed system for the new state-of-the-art facility. The robust design of the log yard enables the processing of logs weighing up to 6 tonnes – ideal for the massive fir, spruce, and Douglas fir logs handled in Urmatt.
After a successful start-up, Marco Heyen (Holtec Sales Manager France) symbolically handed over the first sawn log to Paul Siat and his project team.
Everyone involved proudly looks back on this successful project – an impressive example of how a traditional family business is shaping the future of the wood industry.
