One of the key requirements for sustainable processes is to improve a company’s ecological efficiency in the long term without compromising competitiveness.
Log handling with diesel-powered machines, in particular, offers significant potential for improvement. HOLTEC took on this challenge and developed a new log handling concept: a modern, highly flexible, and powerful portal crane based on a fully electric drive system. The product will be marketed under the name VPK Loghandler.
For the development of this portal crane, HOLTEC relied on the expertise of an experienced crane manufacturer from the steel industry, while the handling machine was provided by SENNEBOGEN. After a project phase of just nine months, the first HOLTEC VPK 840/36-8 Loghandler replaced an old rope gantry crane at Dold Holzwerke in Buchenbach. The new portal crane concept was successfully commissioned in spring 2023. It combines numerous advantages: low energy consumption and operating costs, long service life, and maximum storage capacity in a compact footprint.
