16.11.10 - Installation start at German Pellets, Erndtebrück

HOLTEC logyard for Europe's largest pellets producer

In summer 2010 the companies RWE Innogy Cogen and German-Pellets built a production for quality pellets in Erndtebrück. NRW Pellets GmbH located in Erndtebrück is principal. The company is owned 90% by RWE and 10% by German-Pellets. German-Pellets operate the factory and are responsible for the sale of the pellets. With a capacity of up to 120,000 metric tons per year the growing market of the private end users in Nordrhein-Westfalen will be supplied with DINplus pellets.

The pellets are made from residues from sawable logs as well as from industrial logs which are mainly from the region. The required heat capacity (approx. 100,000 MWh) is supplied from the nearby RWE biomass cogeneration plant in Wittgenstein.

HOLTEC designed and developed the high-capacity logyard together with the investor and the operator as well as the other partners LEONHARDT and VECOPLAN. LEONHARDT delivered the rotary debarker with a design capacity of 40 metric tons bd per hour so there is enough reserve available.

The log deck is designed for a maximum load of 100 metric tons. A stair feeder separates the logs and feeds the debarker. Dirt, sand, stones and loose bark are removed from the logs behind the debarker. The chipper infeed is made via a solid chain bed conveyor with offset side-bar chain. The power and control electrics are from HOLTEC. The project is completed with a safety concept carried out in co-operation with the operator.

The components have already been proved in systems installed in the wood based panel industry. New is the high capacity chip production and process from logs for pellet production.
